This is a reminder that in the January 27th edition of The Ringing World the CC Public Relations Committee encouraged ringing both HM The Queen's actual birthday: 21st April as well as on 17th June - her official birthday and the day of Trooping the Colour. It is hoped that as many towers as possible will ring on both days at a locally convenient time.
Buckingham Palace has announced a number of events to celebrate the occasion. These will include a National Service of Thanksgiving on Thursday 15th June at 11am at St. Paul's Cathedral, whose bells will be rung for 30 minutes before and 20 minutes after the service. On Saturday 17th June at 12 noon a peal will be attempted by members of the St. Paul's Cathedral Guild of Ringers.
Possibly other bands will be inspired to ring 1280 length quarters or peals of 5080 changes.
It is also suggested that peals and quarters should be rung throughout the period between the two dates and that this would be a good opportunity for celebratory branch/district peal and quarter peal projects. For example, a branch/district quarter peal month in May could lead to bells which are normally silent being rung in celebration.
Please try to ensure that advance announcements are made locally, giving the day and time, that the bells will be rung to celebrate the Queen's birthday. Parish magazines as well as local newspapers and radio would be suitable for this.
Please send details of your ringing as soon as possible to The Ringing World so that it can be included in a special issue.
