Technical Notes
System Requirements
- Operating System: MS Windows XP or later
- Browser: Internet Explorer 7 or later, or Firefox 3 or later
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
Running the Software
- Place DVD in CD/DVD drive
- When the 'Open' window appears, click 'here'
- [If the 'Open' window does not appear, go to 'My Computer', open drive RW 1911-40 (A) and double-click rwstarta.htm]
- The main window then gives access to the Ringing World pages and other information
- In the main window, 'Help' gives details of how to use the system
Installing the System on your PC
The files on the DVDs may be copied into a folder on your PC as follows:
- Create a folder, eg 'My Documents\rw'
- Copy all the files from one DVD, including the subfolder 'pdfs' and its contents , into this folder
- From the other DVD copy the contents of folder 'pdfs' into 'My Documents\rw\pdfs'
- To run the application double click 'rw191140.htm', or create a shortcut to this file on your desktop
Viewing directly with Adobe Reader
Double-clicking the image files (1911.pdf, etc) in the 'pdfs' folders (on the DVDs or the PC) will open the files directly in Adobe Reader.
Browser Issues
Internet Explorer is the recommended browser, since it can best handle the large pdf files.

Solution
Select 'Allow Blocked Content…'
Alternatively, use Tools | Internet Options | Advanced | Security and check 'Allow active content from CDs …'
(Check 'Allow active content to run in files …' if system is run from PC)
Firefox
- Problem
'Firefox prevented this site from opening
a popup window'
Solution
Click 'Options' and select 'Show file…'
Alternatively, use Tools | Options | Content
and uncheck 'Block popup windows'
- Problem
Pdf image files are slow to display or do not display at all
Solution
Click Tools | Options | Applications and set 'Adobe Acrobat Document' to 'use Acrobat Reader 9.3 (default)'
(This will open the image files in a new window instead of in the main window)
