Diamond Jubilee of HM the Queen
The Government has announced that there is to be an additional UK Bank Holiday in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The late May Bank Holiday is being moved back a week, with an additional Tuesday added, so the Bank holidays are Monday & Tuesday June 4 and 5.
The Queen will be only the second British monarch to achieve a diamond jubilee, after Queen Victoria, and she is reported as being keen that the celebrations are kept separate from the Olympic celebrations.
Something very similar happened to the Bank Holidays in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee and the Council meeting was changed to the Monday of the additional Bank Holiday weekend. The intention was that members would be able to get home for the main Tuesday celebrations to ring locally. To provide certainty for the Chester DG, the host association in 2012, the Council officers have agreed that the Council meeting should again be moved to the Monday of the new Bank holiday weekend (June 4).
Please note in your diaries! A lot of ringing opportunities in 2012.
