Biographies Committee
The Committee's objective is to create biographical records of the ringing
careers of ringers. Prior to 2009 its remit was limited to ringers who have
now or in the past served on the Central Council, but in 2009 this restriction
was removed (see Terms of Reference, below). The Committee has not yet
formulated criteria for which ringers (other than Council members) it should
seek to create a record on, but it is willing to accept nominations (including
self nominations), and will accept contributions of biographical information
on any ringer (see Forms, below).
Biographical information held by the Committee may be used to help in the
writing of obituaries or it may be used as material for future articles in
The Ringing World or as the basis of future publications on the
history of ringing.
When a former or current Council member dies, the relevant information is
written on a page in one of a series of books which commemorate Central Council
members, and form part of the history of the Central Council. Many of these
documents are
available on-line.
With the expansion of its remit, the Committee is exploring other ways in which
biographical information may be more easily submitted and made available to
ringers and historians for reference and research.

All Council members are encouraged to send their biographical information to
the Committee, and other ringers are also welcome to do so. If you have never
done this before, please use the Biography Sheet. If you provided biographical
information more than six years ago, we would appreciate an update using the
Biography Update Sheet.
If you have access to a recent version of Microsoft Word, or to other software
which can process its ".doc" files, you can edit the
Biography Sheet or the
Biography Update Sheet form and
e-mail it to the Committee using the link at the foot of the form.
Otherwise please download, print, complete and sign the PDF version of the
Biography Sheet or the
Biography Update Sheet form and
post it to the Committee as indicated at the foot of the form. These are PDF
documents which can be viewed and printed using
Adobe Reader.
Please remember to email a recent photograph (most electronic formats are
acceptable) or to enclose a postcard-sized print with your hard-copy form.
